// What It Is?
How Linear Motor Technology Works
Linear motors generate motion directly in a straight line using electromagnetic force instead of converting rotary motion through a gearbox, rack-and-pinion system, or ballscrew. Energized motor coils interact with a stationary magnetic track to move the machine axis precisely without mechanical transmission components between the motor and load. This direct-drive design provides faster response, higher acceleration, zero drivetrain backlash, and fewer wear components in demanding laser cutting operations.
Technical aspects:
Performance Advantages of Linear Motor Systems
6G Acceleration and Dynamic Performance
Linear Motors on the X and Y Axes
Linear motors directly power both the X and Y axes without relying on gearboxes, rack-and-pinion systems, or ballscrews. This creates immediate axis response and eliminates mechanical drivetrain backlash.
The Advantages of 6G Acceleration
With linear motors controlling both axes, the machine can achieve acceleration up to 6G. Faster acceleration, deceleration, and direction changes reduce positioning time between cuts while improving productivity on detailed parts, small features, and high-density nests.
Low Maintenance, High Efficiency
Low Maintenance
Linear motor systems eliminate many gears and transmission components found in conventional drive systems, reducing wear and lubrication requirements.
High Efficiency
Direct-drive motion eliminates mechanical backlash and reduces transmission losses, supporting efficient and reliable operation over extended production cycles.
